Abstract
In this paper, the author reports his teaching practice of Japanese language and literature at the University of Darma Persada in Jakarta, Indonesia. Going along with the theory and practice of Critical Content-Based Instruction (CCBI), the author is seeking a way to utilize Japanese poetry in order to enhance not only the learners’ understanding of Japanese language itself, but also their critical thinking and mutual understanding among different cultures.
