This report is based on a face-to-face symposium and an online information exchange that were held to obtain the opinions of a variety of home economics experts on the essence of home economics and the related issues of teacher training. The purpose was to obtain suggestions for the home economics teacher training curriculum and to plan for future research. Each participant was encouraged to re-examine their thoughts on home economics education—through collaboration with experts with various positions and histories—to define the essence of home economics and teacher training methods. In addition, we obtained guidelines for future steps for the teaching profession and consumers. In the changing teacher training curriculum, the perspective of the creation of lifestyle, as well as consumer development is important.
