Since China resumed postgraduate enrollment in 1978, the number of postgraduates has increased sharply and undergraduates have indicated the intention to undertake postgraduate study. The related research still focuses on key universities, however this phenomenon is evident even in local universities. In this paper, we explain the intentions of undergraduate students to pursue higher education and the influencing factors: First, students of local universities have a strong intention to undertake postgraduate study, especially at provincial capital city universities. Second, the intentions of local university students for pursuing higher education are affected by factors such as the city where the university is located, their age, university satisfaction, and their understanding of employment. Additionally, university life has a significant influence on students’ intentions to pursue postgraduate education.
