Abstract
Language play or word play such as puns, jokes and riddles has rather been neglected as English teaching and learning material. They, however, can be quite effective in language learning if appropriately used. Hence the aim of this paper to examine and prove their usefulness from the several points of view, mainly in terms of the foregrounding function.
