The aim of this paper is to investigate the yearly change of technical college students' attitude towards English studying. The participants were given English tests and retrospective questionnaires to reflect their English learning for three years. An interview was also conducted to further investigate the points raised in the questionnaire analysis. The results of the questionnaire revealed that the participants' interest in studying English remarkably dropped in the second year. The comparison between more skilled and less skilled students showed that more skilled students kept a higher motivation in studying English, and are interested in reading and writing English, while less skilled counterparts were likely to lose their interest in studying English easily. By interviewing sixteen selected students, it was also found out several more skilled students had opportunities to be exposed to English outside school and also have specific future goals related to English use.
