Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine Hisao Kitamura's educational theory of music from the viewpoint of the theory and the method of character building.
Kitamura considered that only in the position of intuition of art, a person can acquire the personal position in which he becomes free, creative, moral and true self and cultivate the union character of goodness, truth and beauty. He tried to cultivate children's character by cultivating children's musical and esthetic intuition by music. As the concrete method, Kitamura considered it important to choose the teaching materials with a high effect of making children obtain pure intuition of art, to make children contemplated on the teaching materials and to make approaches to not intellects but feelings such as imagination and moods as much as possible.
