The present study attempts to elucidate the way in which mothers behave and express their affection to their children of ages 3-5 years. Observations were carried out when participants dropped their children at kindergarten in the morning. The following results were obtained: (1) When their children were three-years old, mothers appeared to nurture them and overtly express affection prior to leaving. (2) Regardless of their child's age, the overall amount of expressed affection remained consistent among participants. (3) In both age groups (3 and 5 years), mothers with daughters were noticed to express more affection than mothers with sons.
