Abstract
In ancient Japan, Japanese was written in the Chinese characters. This thesis makes report about the usage of 有, 在, 坐, and 居, when they show the meaning of <existence> in 'Kojiki'. (It is said that it was written in 712.) The result of the investigation is recorded as follows: 有 shows the <existence> of the person, the god, and the object. 在 also shows the <existence> of the person, the god, and the object, but it often shows the <existence> of the imperial mausoleums. 坐 shows the <existence> of the god and the emperor. 居 shows the <existence> of lowly person and the god as compared with another.
