Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify the content and actual conditions of collaboration with medical professionals from the perspective of teachers in considering effective collaboration between medical care and education in future special-needs schools (for the physically handicapped). A web-based questionnaire survey was conducted among 105 teachers working in special-needs schools (physically handicapped) regarding the advantages and difficulties they perceive in collaboration with medical professionals, as well as issues to be addressed for future improvement. Results showed that most teachers felt positive aspects regarding medical-educational collaboration. On the other hand, about 30% of the teachers felt that there were challenges and difficulties in the collaboration. Finally, based on the results obtained, we discussed and made recommendations for future medical-educational collaboration, including institutional and systemic aspects and improvement of teachers’ expertise.
