Recently the significance of "the relationship between theory and practice" in teacher training is often discussed in Japan. "The relationship between theory and practice" is an important term not only for teacher training but also for training for doctors and nurses, social workers. The purpose of this paper is to examine "the relationship between theory and practice" in the training for social workers. In order to examine it, I will focus Alice Salomon who wrestled the training for social workers. Alice Salomon is today considered the pioneer of German social work. However, she has not been referred to in the history of education. She made a point of the theory and practice, considered the good relationship both of them. She tried to guarantee the fruitful learn and students' right to learn by closely linking with the social welfare facilities.
