Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the changes of elementary school teacher education programs of universities after introduction of national Teacher Education Curriculum Standards of China. Program materials of six colleges of education before and after 2011 were collected and analyzed in detail. Main findings are as follows: At first, elementary school teacher education programs and the objectives changed to prepare future teachers who can teach several subjects instead of single subject. Secondly, credits of teaching related and practical training courses increased significantly. Third, the credit and weeks of school/classroom observation and student teaching increased. Fourthly, collaboration in student teaching among school, university and local board of education developed. The degree of these changes differs among six colleges. However, the national Teacher Education Curriculum Standards of China made a significant impact on elementary school teacher education programs of colleges of education.
