Abstract
The present short report reviews the 5th overseas teaching practicum in the United States by seven graduate students of Hiroshima University, Japan, partly organized by Hiroshima University Global Partnership School Center since 2006. The students majoring in learning science and science education planned and conducted lessons in English in three local public schools in the state of North Carolina. The significant features of this project are three-fold: 1) to develop practical instructional competence in consideration of the pupils with different cultural backgrounds; 2) to enhance the abilities in developing teaching materials through hands-on teaching experiences in English; and 3) to acquire the abilities to design, implement and evaluate programs for promoting global partnership. Among the major achievements by the participants through this project are increased awareness of the goals of the lessons and development of communication skills in the classroom. It is hoped that this experience abroad will further enhance the Japanese students' competence and confidence in teaching.
