Abstract
From the 19th to the early 20th century, the Western modernization became the common topic in Japan and China. This study wants to make clear the "individualism" of Natsume Souseki (1868-1916) and Lin Yu-tang (1895-1976) in their later years. Through this comparative analysis, an opportunity of exploring the new "individualism" which surmount the Western modernization will be formed.
