Abstract
This is the third paper in a series of studies analyzing the imagery used in SNOW COUNTRY, written by Yasunari Kawabata. The Japanese word "なか(nakd)" is used 55 times in SNOW COUNTRY, and the word "流れる(nagareru)" is used 20 times. As "sensuous" expressions, these bring multileveled structure, picturesqueness, and fluidity to the descriptions of SNOW COUNTRY. Meanwhile, 228 instances of onomatopoeia can be found in SNOW COUNTRY. The literary expressions foster a sensuous and delicate mood. Many expressions like these are omitted in the English edition of SNOW COUNTRY. From this, we can confirm that SNOW COUNTRY is a very sensuous novel, and that the sensuousness is very "Japanesque".
