Abstract
The purpose of this study is to clarify the use of bells in Montessori education and the specific features of these bells. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) took sixty years to develop the Montessori method. Especially, Anna Maria Maccheroni (1876-1965) was entrusted with the planning of musical activities and development of materials by Maria Montessori.

A study has been carried out on the music guidance of Maccheroni. However, a study on the whole aspect of music guidance in Montessori education has not been carried out yet.

According to Maccheroni, the bells are to be used as the primary material for children to perceive musical elements. She wrote the booklet, “Orecchio, voce, occhio, mano.”, so that the children could spontaneously wrestle with music. The bells are placed as the fundamental material in the booklet, which includes musical activities.

The purpose of this study is to clarify the learning content and features of the learning process of the bells on the basis of the historical records of Maccheroni. It is important to clarify the details of musical activities used in Montessori education.
