Abstract
Life Environment Studies, or "Seikatsuka", was newly introduced in the curriculum at lower grades in elementary school and Formative Play was added to art and craft education in junior high school. Also, with the revision of Course of Study for kindergarten, teaching through plays has become a major trend of nursery school education in public kindergarten. These trends are considered essential in order to get away from knowledge-centered education to experience-centered education. Furthermore, we need to reassure the significance of these trends from the viewpoint of individual-focused education. This approach of focusing on individuals is the trend of the times and the largest issue that the current school education faces in Japan. Therefore, this article reviews the background where individual-focused teaching has been requested and clarifies the viewpoints to realize the education to make the most of the personality of each individual child.
