Abstract
Austrian universities underwent monumental changes in recent years when “the Bologna Process” was adopted. For example, since October 2011 Austrian universities have implemented the StEOP (Studieneingangs- und Orientierungsphase), which was developed to give first-year students an overview of their studies and to avoid mismatches between university majors and students. (See Yoshimitsu, 2014, for details.)

In March 2015, the first evaluation of StEOP was published. In the current paper, the results of the evaluation, especially from the perspective of students, are introduced. It was found that 38% of the students regard the StEOP as a major burden, and 39% consider it to be a waste of time. But at the same time, it is a fact that there are very small numbers of students who have failed the StEOP tests and therefore cannot continue to study at universities. This situation has brought about another problem: the so-called “No-Show Students,” who matriculate, but attend no examinations.
