The purpose of this research is to study a concept of nurturance. The results of the research were as follows: 1) It was suggested that it was important to develop nurturance education for younger generations of Japanese, due to be able to assist child rearing. 2) In the literature on child rearing, nurturance is usually thought to be composed of empathy and affectivity for parent's own child. On the other hand, A. Fogel, G. F. Melson & J. Mistry (1989) and Kojima (1989) argued about the core of the nurturance's concept. They considered nurturance to be defined as fostering developmental change within the potentials of growth of the nurturant object, not only child but also elderly, pets, plants and so on. 3) Distinction of the nurturance can be conceptualized as the degree of articulation of an individual's concepts of their own and other's developmental process.
