The purpose of this study was to clarify the use of big books as supplement teaching aids in music classes for kindergarten children through the lower grades of primary schools, particularly the combination of big books and textbooks. The study focused on descriptions extracted from the American music textbook series Silver Burdett Making Music (2008) and its auxiliary big books employed as teaching materials. The findings were as follows. First, using big books together with textbooks is connected to developing skills for reading and listening to music. Second, big books are used in the beginning and middle sections of classes. Third, it was evident that textbooks are used for teaching advanced knowledge and skills.
