It is difficult to teach literary works. A student can understand literature materials without the help of teachers, so teachers must show impressive readings in a classroom. The aim of this paper is to propose a new method of discovering convincing readings applying rhetoric and film studies. They are different fields, but by combining the useful perspective of both, a method that is easy for teachers to use can be created. Rhetoric studied the effects that various rhetorical techniques made, its accumulation of research results is effective in analysis of literature materials, especially helpful for discovering the author’s ingenuity. Film studies suppose a scenario as aggregation of countless selection result, this view relativizes casts, episodes, etc. of literary works. In this paper two literary works, “Seibei to Hyotan” and “Nine”, are analyzed as a case study of our method, “Seibei” is analyzed mainly using a cinematic perspective, and “Nine” is analyzed mainly using rhetoric knowledge.
