Information Media and Project-based Learning for German Beginners

Abstract
With the progress of ICT technology in recent years, more and more language-learning materials and tools have been provided on the WWW. Also in the field of German language education, there are a lot of sites that offer authentic language-learning materials with interesting contents today. However, these materials are not necessarily provided for German beginners, and as such, cannot be understood or even accessed without a certain level of German ability. Most of the language-related tools were also originally developed and provided for purposes different from foreign language learning; therefore, they should be used only after consideration about how they can be effectively applied.
Based on these circumstances, this article summarizes information about sites that could be useful for education and autonomous learning of German learners with the Levels A1 to B1, defined in the European Common Language Reference Frame (Council of Europe 2001). Also, some examples of new learning projects developed with the help of established language materials and language-related tools are described.
