Abstract
The purpose of this study is to review the challenge and perspective about previous studies of teaching practice in Japan. The findings of this study were as follows: 1) The curriculum for teacher training promoted the reform for teaching practice after the 1990's. 2) The pre-service teachers and the in-service teachers have recognized that the teaching practice is important because the competency as a teacher is developed, 3) The teaching practice and the contact activities that compliment teaching practice influence professional development as a teacher. Finally, in the study of teaching practice in the future, it is necessary to examine the difference and the similarity between the meaning of teaching practice recognized for pre-service teachers who have experienced teaching practice and that of teaching practice for in-service teachers reflected on the past concerning those experiences, and to examine the relation among development of competency of pre-service teacher, advisory instruction of cooperating teacher, and organizational climate and culture.
