The purpose of this paper is to make an attempt to draw a wider perspective on the feelings of Atomic Bomb Survivors in Hiroshima and Nagasaki by looking at their antagonistic thoughts. Such “negative” side of Atomic Bomb Survivors do not appear on surface in public since their core feeling for accomplishing peace is understood as “wishing for the world without nuclear weapons”.
This paper analyzes two different surveys conducted by the Asahi Shimbun and the Yomiuri Shimbun. What was revealed after such analysis was that although more than 70% of the Atomic Bomb Survivors once had actually hated USA, many of them did not hate USA any more by the time of the survey.
While the reason for such result – the majority of the Atomic Bomb Survivors do not hate USA any more – is not yet clear enough, this study has intention to make further analysis on the thoughts and feelings of the Atomic Bomb Survivors by making interview to them in the coming days.
