It is generally said that Yaemugura-Monogatari, one of the tales in Middle Dynasty of Japan, is a short one but its story is very coherent, and it is considered to be a good piece of work in terms both of plot and style. However, no complete modern translations of the tale have been published.
This paper attempts to modernize the tale, based on the recently found manuscript which is in the possession of Toyoji Hara. Due to space limitation, only the third quarter of the whole tale is dealt with in the present paper.
