The purpose of this study is to obtain an understanding from narrative concepts(story and telling) with the aim of rebuilding literature education. Accordingly, we focused on the act of "telling" to establish a theory. As a result, the following findings were obtained : 1) the skills of retelling (wider meaning) required the skills of telling, listening and retelling; 2) the skills of retelling (wider meaning) can be developed by using literary texts because (a) both stories of life and stories of fiction are texts and (b) literature functions to foster the skills of retelling ; and 3) the skills of retelling can be nurtured by ensuring equality and half-positionality ( securing a place for one to observe conversation objectively) in class.
