Abstract
The purpose of counseling is for clients to understand themselves on their own. The settings needed for the interview is called a "frame" of an interview and includes deciding on a person, place, time, and fee. It has two functions: 1. It makes it easier for clients to mentally cut off any interference from daily life and express their inner side without fear. 2. By doing so, the expressed inner side will be paid attention to, thus making it easier for the clients to understand themselves. On the other hand, It may make for the clients to become aware of their unknown self and feel uneasy. This kind of "resistance" can occur as the counseling progresses as well as in the process of frame creation. Therefore, for the clients to see their inner side, even if they feel uneasy at the same time, a frame setting should be considered in the first stage. In this thesis, necessary facts during the frame creation stage are examined from the concept of holding propounded by Winnicott D.W.
