This study aimed to examine whether the use of inferential questions offers the possibility of enhancing students' undemanding of nuances in the study of English as a foreign language. The object of the exercise was for students to grasp the situation contained in a dialogue through the use of inferential questions. We found that the students in one class, who used only fact-finding questions, were unable to understand meanings and nuances in English; however, students in another class were able to understand the meaning of the dialogue through both fact-finding and inferential questions. This kind of approach to reading comprehension offers various possibilities at the stage of intake for students.
