Abstract
The purpose of this study was to clarify how the science curriculum were compiled for elementary school in the 1950s. Through the documentary records, the following results were reached: (1) Advisory committee on Science Curriculum drew up “Objectives of understandings”, which were consist of 65 science concepts in 1947. (2) In the elementary science curriculum of Kagawa prefecture (1950), objectives of science were provided not by “Course of study-science (tentative plan)” (1947), but by “Objectives of understandings” (1947). (3) In the elementary science curriculum compiled by Yokohama city board of education, its objectives were quoted from the interim report about the revision of course of study by Ministry of Education (1950). (4) Minami-Ota elementary school plan (1952) was made not by “Objectives of understandings” (1947) and the above interim report (1950), but by the actual states of its areas and students.
