Abstract
We investigated the effect of individualized goal setting on academic self-efficacy in 60 elementary school children (aged 9-10). The time goal to complete arithmetic problems was used to increase children's self-efficacy. Although their self-efficacy increased in accordance with time on task, we did not find a specific effect of goal setting on either self-efficacy or academic work. Future research needs to address the issues of goal suitability and generalization programming.
