Kanke-suma-no-ki is a writing dealing with travels which depicts Sugawara Michizane' s mind after he lost his position and was left for Dazaifu and also the behaviour of people aside while on the journey to Suma. It is not a writing by himself but a pseudo graph made in the Edo period. It is, however, in the guise of Michizane' s writing so the archaic expressions are used, which makes it hard to understand. Therefore, the scholars made efforts to read the book. There are many manuscripts with various kinds of notes between the lines or on the margin of each page. For example, Tsuboi Yoshichika made marginal notes for the writing. In the end of the Edoperiod, two kinds of full-fledged annotated books were written. In this paper, focusing on the two annotated books, I will trace the annotations of Kanke-suma-no-ki in the Edo period.
