Shortly before dawn on January 25th, 1867, a peasants' uprising broke out in the southern part of Hiroshima-han's Eso-gun —which lies within the Chugoku Sanchi—and quickly spread over the entire gun. The aim of the present essay is to introduce the demands of 400 or more put out from the villages of 42 in this riot (Ikki). Main demands were concerning the Shuho-mai. The Shuho-mai was, so to speak, special accounting in which unpaid of the land tax was saved. This reserve fund was lent to peasants in Eso-gun. The people demanded the abolition of the Shuho-mai, and demanded the postponement of the repayment of the loan.
Moreover, there were a lot of demands that it wanted to buy back the cultivated fields and the forests, too. It seems that this is the one put out from the reason that it wants to return the companion who lost land to the community.
