It has been noted that narcissists avoid the situations negatively evaluated. The present study aimed to examine the effect of Hypervigilant Narcissism (Gabbard, 1994) on avoidant behavior from perspectives of the relationship among personality traits, one's self-assessment, motivation, behavior strategies using the covariance structure analysis(path analysis). 293 Perticipants (Mean age=20.5; SD=2.05) completed questionnaires. Results suggest that Hypervigilant Narcissism had direct relations to personality traits, and strengthened the avoidant behavior indirectly (R2=.40). Fear of negative evaluation, self-handicapping tendency, dependence desire, and luck of self-efficacy strengthened avoidant behavior directly.
