This paper discusses coded information of various attributes in guide map and mutual conversion between sentences and rough sketch. Practically a tool for converting linguistic route guide to visual map and a tool for converting visual map to linguistic route guide are proposed. The total system is implemented in a workstation by some computer programs; morphological analyzer, Japanese dictionary, data processor described by a programming language 'Perl' and a drawing tool of map. Precise mechanism in human brains for associating linguistic sentences with images is not clear. In this research, morphological analyzer extracts map attributes from sentences. Linguistic sentences of route guide are associated with visual map by attribute terms about direction, right/left side, crossings, buildings, qualitative distance and so on. Effectiveness of this system is estimated about some examples and discussions are also given to put this system to practical use.
