Abstract
There are three Chinese translations of Naoya Shiga’s short story “Tensei” (Bungeisyunjyuu,1924.03,2(3)).
① Wojun Zhang translation Zaishi (next no. renamed: Zhuansheng) (Riwen Yu Riyu, 1934.09,10,1(9,10)).
② Daosun Qian translation Zhuansheng (Beiping Modern Library Journal,1938.03,07,(3,4))
③ Shiyi Lou translation Zhuansheng (Qianniuhua: Hunan Poeple’s Publishing House,1981.08).
I have studied and compared the three translations above based on the revised theory. As Wojun Zhang’s translation selected “Tensei” as teaching material, it turned out that he made considerable efforts in the “language.” Furthermore, we find Zhang’s accommodating the universe of discourse by emphasizing Chinese slang, such as “The Alliance of Mandarin Ducks.” As there are very few studies that examine the translator Wojun Zhang’s translation skills after analyzing his translations, this study, which focuses on the universe of discourse and language of the rewriting theory, confirms the excellence of Wojun Zhang’s practical translation skills and shows one result for his translation studies.
