With the general shift from hospital care to home medical care for paediatric patients in the 21st century, several ways to reduce the duration of hospitalization of children have been sought. The impression of a respirator has changed from a "life-sustaining apparatus" to a "magic box" that potentially opens up the world to the children who use it. One of the missions of nursing staff at the hospital is to help in this process of decision-making, while respecting the rights of the children and their parents and family members. In order to establish an effective manner in which nursing staff can support the parents in the decision-making process, the parents' perception of the transition of their children from hospital care to home care was investigated from the perspective of the parents, and was based on two studies of parents whose children must use a respirator at all times. ...
