社会系教科では，社会認識を通して公民的資質を育成することが目指される。社会認識については，現代社会の制度・システムを当然のものとして捉え認識するのではなく，社会的・歴史的背景を踏まえた上でどう認識するのかを考えることが重要であり，批判的思考に基づいて真理性や正当性についての妥当性を吟味しながら認識する必要がある。社会系教科の授業では，こうした批判的思考に基づく認識形成過程が中心をしめるべきであり，それを通して公民的資質は育成され，社会について知的で実践的かつ合理的意志決定ができるようになると考える。本研究では，批判的思考に基づく認識形成を行うための方略とそのための内容構成を検討し，「富岡製糸場と絹産業遺産群」を教材として「日本史Ａ」の授業を開発，提示した。

In social studies, we aim to develop the nature of the citizen through social recognition. We believe that social recognition and the system of modern society are important topics, and it is essential to examine these matters in relation to the historical background of society. Simultaneously, the validity of the characteristics of society should be explored via critical thought. When holding classes on subjects connected with society, the recognition-formation process, based on critical thinking, should be central to the lesson. We consider that intellectual, practical, and rational decision-making comes to be possible in society owing to social studies. In this research, a strategy for recognizing the importance of social studies was created and used to form the basis of the unit on “Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Industrial Heritage” in the course “Japanese History A.”
