The General Assembly Special Session of United Nations entitled “Women 2000: gender equality, developmentand peace for the twenty-first century", which is also known as Beijing+5, held at the United Nations Headquartersin New York from June 5 to 10, 2000. In order to make the five-year review of the Beijing Platform for Actiondetermined in the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing 1995), the special session was convened as a fol-low-up action. This special session focused on examples of good practices, positive actions, lessons to be learned, remainingobstacles and key challenges, regarding women's issues. Further actions and initiatives for achieving gender equali-ty in the new millennium were also taken into consideration. At the end of special session, two documents:“Political Declaration"and “Further actions and initiatives to implement the Beijing Declaration and the Platformfor Action: Outcome Document" were determined to follow by all the member nations of the UN. The author stayedin N.Y. from June 2 to 6 and participated in several events of this session.The purpose of this paper is to mention the outline of “Women 2000" and to reveal the author's ideas in solvingthe problems of women's issues.In the first part of this paper, the following three are discussed: (1) identifying changes and historical perspectiveof the global women's conference 1975-1995, (2) examining contents of “Women 2000" , and (3) analyzing“Outcome Document".In its second part, the symposium, panels and workshops in which the author took part were described (e.g.Beijing+5 NGO Host Committee Opening Ceremony and UNICEF Symposium).Its final part is the following two concerned with pointed out: (1) the results and issues come out from this con-ference and other women's conferences, and (2) what we should do to create a peaceful and humane world based onall human rights and fundamental freedoms.
