Abstract
The water pollution is a serious environmental problem in Korean rivers, especially in the Naktong-gang River ofthe Republic of Korea which was rapidly developed an industrialized country. The Naktong-gang River is 525 kmlong and flows to Pusan City, the second largest city of the Republic of Korea. The cause of water pollution is dueto agriculture, industries and domestic sewage come from over-use of chemical fertilizer and urbanization of about13 million peoples in 23,656 km2watershed. Until 1990, this river had been polluted. After then, central and localgovernments and citizens eagerly tried to solve this problem. In 1998, it was obviously cleaner than before. Weinvestigated this cleaning process from Korean literatures and interviews to local people. However, it is still not thegood condition in water quality. For the further objectives of clean river, we proposed six items to promote thecleaning project of the Naktong-gang River from the past experience in Japan.
