住民参加によるホタル再生に向けた地域環境の現状評価 <短報>

広島県東広島市寺家地区において, ホタル再生に向けた地域環境の現状把握を目的としてワークショップの開催, ホタルの分布調査, 生息環境の調査を行った。ワークショップではホタル分布調査の結果に基づいて, ホタルの生息地点を示す「ホタルマップ」を作成するとともに, 参加者全員で各地点の周辺環境に関するグループディスカッションを行った。またホタルの生息地点を対象とした環境条件の調査を行った。その結果2009年に限っても13地点でホタル成虫の生息が確認され, 各地点における環境条件も, 他の先行研究でホタルの生息が可能と報告されている値と同程度であった。以上のことから, 対象地域では住民が地域の自然環境を良い状態ではないと認識している一方で, 実際には少なくともホタルが生息可能な環境が維持されていることが明らかになった。

We conducted a field survey and a workshop for an environmental investigation aimed at the restoration of fireflies in a suburban area of Higashi-Hiroshima City, Japan. We investigated distributions of fireflies in cooperation with interested persons in the area. A map showing the firefly distribution, prepared at the workshop, exhibited that Luciola crusiata and Luciola lateralis were observed at 13 sites in the study site during July 2009. Thereafter, we also investigated environmental conditions at each site. Environmental conditions including water quality and physical factors at each site were similar to those described in reports of previous studies. Results of our study clarified that habitats required by fireflies are preserved at the study site, although most area residents have a negative image of regional environmental conditions.
