Abstract |
After the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, there were no relevant institutions or laws regarding teachers’ qualifications, until recently. In 2000, certification examinations of teachers began to be introduced and implemented nationwide in China. However, due to a range of problems, such as implementation in different regions, limitations of examination forms and the objectives of examinations, a reform of teacher’s certification examinations was carried out by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China in 2011. The standards and contents of the examination are set by the state. In addition, all applicants who wish to become teachers, including normal university students, non-normal university students, and social people can undertake a certification examination. The current study focused on the certification examination of music teachers, which was implemented after 2015. We discuss the specific process of the certification examination as well as analyzing and summarizing the contents, characteristics and trends of relevant music examinations in primary schools. Analysis of the relevant examinations of the content of music classes in primary schools indicated that certification examinations for primary school teachers focus more on the music teacher’s teaching plan and the concept and goal of the music curriculum standard, as well as the ability to master basic music pedagogy and apply education methods, while knowledge related to musicology does not receive sufficient attention. Regarding the content and music skills of primary school music teachers, there are several areas for improvement at the examination stage.
