Abstract
In November 2014, Hiroshima Prefectural Board of education announced The Action Plan for Learning Innovation in Hiroshima. The objective of this plan is to promote learning approaches that effectively utilize knowledge and cooperate among students to create new value. This plan has been devised in anticipation of the next revision of the course of study in Japan. Additionally, conducting lessons in accordance with this plan will promote understanding of the new course of study. Therefore, this practical study was performed with a focus on “problem-identifying and -solving learning,” which is one of the six measures of the plan. In particular, this study focused on solution creativity, which is necessary for problem solving, and furthered insight as to how teachers should support their students. For about three months, high school students created original accompaniment for a piece of music for each group of 4 or 5 people, while considering the form of song and the content of lyrics, and practiced singing while playing the guitar for each group. As a result, it was confirmed that incorporating "problem-identifying and -solving learning" into a music lesson is effective in expanding the musical perspective of the students and overcoming their personal problems. Conversely, it was revealed that the students tended to ask for easier performance contents and there was difficulty in securing time for continuous thinking for students.
