Abstract |
This study was conducted to review past research that has been carried out on the subject of caring for children with special needs at day care centers and preschools. There have been a number of research studies done not only on children who were formally diagnosed as being disabled but also on those who were just suspected as such, indicating that this is an important issue. A first point noted is that, rather than focusing on weak points, teachers/caregivers believe that encouraging children to do more in their area of strength may be more effective in broadening a child's thinking. A second point is that the teachers/caregivers think that it is important to work closely together with parents, doctors, and other professionals to achieve optimum results in the child's development. The third point is the use of observation in the child's usual setting to see the interaction between the child with special needs and the teachers/caregivers as well as with other children without special needs.
