Abstract |
In this study, egorrhea experiences were defined as episodes of egorrhearelated symptoms, including egorrhea-related symptoms observed in an otherwise normal condition. The purpose of this study was to examine the general concept and nature of egorrhea experiences by attempting to develop an egorrhea-experience questionnaire. The items of the questionnaire were determined by studying various aspects of social phobia and by analyzing the results of a previous study on egorrhea symptoms. A total of 180 university students were investigated in this study. On the basis of the factor analysis, I developed a 4-factor-structure, which comprised fear of self odor, thought broadcasting, dysmorphophobia, and erythrophobia, for characterizing egorrhea experiences. I observed that thought broadcasting, dysmorphophobia, and erythrophobia indicated egorrhea experiences that were observed in more or less normal conditions. Further, fear of self odor indicated egorrhea experiences in a wide range of conditions, i.e., from morbid to normal conditions.
