Abstract
The present research investigated technology governance abilities. “Assessment," “control," “management," and “design" of technology and the technological world were factors considered in the investigation. A total of 111 undergraduate students answered questionnaires on “technology of nurturing living things." The results showed that the technology for “genetically modified crops" was assessed negatively from the viewpoints of society and safety. On the other hand, positive assessment for this technology was motivated by economic viewpoints. Most undergraduates answered a question on technology control pertaining to “additional fertilizers" appropriately. However, 18.0% undergraduates answered a question on technology management pertaining to “pesticide dispersion" inappropriately. “Breeding" and “usage of the plant" were topics covered in questions on technology design. Appropriate answers elaborating on suitable designs were not provided by approximately 20% of the undergraduates. Answers for the design questions were analyzed from the situations to design and on the basis of technological factors. Consequently, it was suggested that many factors were considered about when undergraduates stood in the social situation.
