Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop a teaching plan for history lesson in elementary schools. The purpose of this teaching plan is to make pupils understand theories of urban culture through studying the culture of the Edo period. The method for making this teaching plan is as follows; First, this plan starts with studying a historical character and expands to the study of the culture of the Edo period; Second, it progresses to comparing the culture of the Edo period with the present urban culture, so that pupils can extract general principles of urban culture. Based on this method, we developed the lesson on "Edo Period and Urban Culture".
