Abstract
The study of current world issues is emphasized in high school geography. The aim of this paper is to explore theprinciples for a lesson plan studying of current world issues in high school geography. For this purpose, firstly, it discusses the idea of the other education which includes content of current worldissues. Next, it compares and analyses two lesson plans of current world issues. In conclusion, the status of “The Issues of the World" study occupies a significant role in The Course of Study,International Charter on Geographical Education, International Education of UNESCO and DevelopmentEducation, especially, in recent years. It shows that there is an expectation that the ability of solving the Issues asthe global citizenship through “The Issues of the World" study will be developed. The principles of these educa-tions are to pursue a value to live with others in the world. In order to accomplish this idea, Geographical Education should improve its processes of learning. It should notplace emphasis on only processes of ‘knowledge understanding' but also include the process of ‘value judgment'and ‘decision-making'. Value to live together in the world should be examined carefully in these processes.Through comparing two lesson plans on current world issues, the effectiveness of a process of ‘Self-reference'and ‘understanding of others' is revealed. The process of ‘Self-reference' is useful to become aware of one's ownresponsibility. Additionally, in the process of ‘understanding of others', students are able to realize the desires andviewpoints implicit in the problem.
