Abstract
The Mirror of China is a book on Chinese history written in the 13th century in Japan. Previous studies have demonstrated that this book is very similar to other books on Chinese history, and some researchers even think that many quotations in this book come from Chinese references. This study pays attention to the contents quoted from Japanese books, focusing on the story of Yushi (the Yellow Emperor's son). It shows that when recounting Chinese history, Japanese people take advantage of the aspects of culture shared by the two countries to help their readers feel closer to Chinese history. In addition, Japanese readers can understand their own history and culture through the comparison with Chinese culture.
