This report is a summary of the 48th Annual Study Meeting, held online through Zoom in 2020. The theme of the year was “Universities in the new Corona Era”.
Industry suffered serious damage as world economic activities shifted to a shut-in economy and microtourism, to minimize the physical movement of people in light of the global outbreak of a new coronavirus infectious disease at the end of 2019.
In the university sector, educational activities, acceptance of the foreign students, sending Japanese students to foreign countries, research activities and employment of the graduates suffered serious damage, too.
At the Annual Study Meeting of this year, we asked four respondents to report on the situation under the novel coronavirus from their own experience.
Masanori Hanawa (Manager of Education Center, University of Yamanashi University) reported on the practice and problems of online classes at the University of Yamanashi.
Carolin Funck (Chairman of Department of Integrated Global Studies, Hiroshima University) reported on the problem and invention of international exchange education at Hiroshima University.
Atsushi Hamana (President of Kansai University of International Studies, Chief director of Hamana Yamate Gakuin) reported on the management of a university seeking to simultaneously deal with the new corona evil and ongoing unification of university corporations and universities.
Hiroki Shikata (Executive managing director of Ritsumeikan University) reported under the theme of "University management in the Corona Era: The approach of Ritsumeikan University".
