Abstract
After the Second World War, under the leadership of the United States, fundamental changes took place in Japan's political system, in which the emperor became a symbol of Japanese national unity without real power. Although the leadership of the Communist Party has recognized the existence of the Mikado system, the official media People’s Daily still believed that Mikado system was reactionary, and the Mikado was guilty of the war. Therefore, when reporting on the emperor, the People’s Daily always shows contempt to the Mikado and speaks frankly about the responsibility of the emperor for the war.
Before the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, China had a strict attitude towards the emperor and believed the emperor system was responsible for the "revival of militarism" After the establishment of diplomatic relations, China's attitude towards the emperor began to improve and show respect for the emperor. China began to report the emperor’s words and deeds that would contribute to the friendship between China and Japan. However, at the time of Showa's death and Japan's shirking war responsibility in 2005 and 2015, China began to raise the issue of Showa's war responsibility again.
Because Emperor Akihito's attitude towards historical issues is very correct, reports on him are very positive, mostly about his words and deeds that reflect on history, love peace and contribute to the friendship between China and Japan are reported. In short, if the historical issues have not been fundamentally resolved, China's impression of emperor Showa will not be completely changed, and China and Japan still have a long way to go in terms of reconciliation on historical issues.
