Abstract
This article examines the opportunities for anthropologists as language instructors in their field societies. Anthropologists who teach a language can provide diverse views toward the society of the target language to their students. Students can not only study the target language, but also develop a multi-cultural view toward the target society. Especially when the students' country has diplomatic problems with the target country, a plural view helps students to commit to the target country in their future. The author conducted two projects in China and the United States, covering the different interpretations of their historic events - the Nanjing Massacre and the dropping of atomic bombs - to the students. This shows that anthropologists as language instructors have an opportunity to enrich both their students' study and their further experience. This is one way for anthropologists to contribute to their field societies.
